2025年1月29日、有田から武温泉駅に着いてステーキを食べた後、武雄温泉の楼門をくぐりぬけて、元湯に行きました。朱塗りの楼門は東京駅を設計した辰野金吾の設計で、大正4年（1915年）に建てられました。本当はその近くの温泉宿に泊まりたかったのですが、泊まりたかった宿は予約できなかったため、駅の近くのビジネスホテルに泊まったので、立ち寄り湯にしたのです。
After arrival from Arita to Takeo Onsen station and having the steak dinner on January 29, 2025 (blog Arita), I passed through the vermilion gate of Takeo Onsen and headed to Motoyu (the hot spring bath that uses hot water directly from the source). The vividly red gate was designed by Kingo Tatsuno, the architect of Tokyo Station, and was built in 1915 (Taisho 4). I had originally wanted to stay at a nearby hot spring inn, but since I couldn’t book the one I was interested in, I ended up staying at a business hotel near the station and visited the bathhouse as a day guest.
武雄温泉は約1300年前に書かれた『肥前国風土記（ひぜんのくにふどき）』にも記されているとか。温泉は弱アルカリ単純泉で、保温性に優れ、肌になじんでしっとりすることから、昔から美人の湯と呼ばれているそうです。
貸し切り個室もありますが、初めてなので「元湯」に入ることにしました。明治9年（1876年）築で、現存する木造建築の温泉施設としては日本最古と言われています。あつ湯には誰にもいなかったので、ゆっくりと入ることができました。すごく気持ちがよくて気に入りました！
Takeo Onsen is even mentioned in the Hizen Fudoki, a record of the Hizen province compiled about 1,300 years ago.
The hot spring is a mildly alkaline simple thermal spring. It has excellent heat-retention properties and is gentle on the skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth — which is why it has long been called a “bijin no yu” (hot spring of beauty).
There are also private rental rooms available, but since it was my first visit, I decided to go to “Motoyu.” Built in 1876 (Meiji 9), it is said to be the oldest surviving wooden hot spring facility in Japan. There was no one in the hotter bath, so I was able to take my time and relax. It was amazing, and I really liked it!
アクセスと武雄市 Access and Takeo City
武雄温泉へは、JR武雄温泉駅から徒歩圏内とアクセスも良好です。
武雄市には温泉宿や立ち寄り湯、そして竹尾焼の窯元が多くあります。武雄温泉駅から博多駅までは特急で約1時間でアクセスが悪くないので、次回は武雄市をじっくりまわってみようかと思います。
Takeo Onsen is conveniently located within walking distance from JR Takeo Onsen Station.
The city of Takeo has many hot spring inns, day-use bathhouses, and kilns for Takeo-yaki pottery. Since it only takes about an hour by express train from Takeo Onsen Station to Hakata Station, I’m thinking of taking more time to explore the city thoroughly on my next visit.
