2025年4月23日、秋田県仙北市の「みちのくの小京都」角館（かくのだて）を訪れました。
On April 23, 2025, I visited Kakunodate in Semboku City, Akita Prefecture — a town known as the “Little Kyoto of the Tohoku region” to enjoy weeping cherry blossoms.
武家屋敷通りのシダレザクラ
人力車に乗って、角館の武家屋敷通りをめぐりました。黒板塀に映えるシダレザクラが満開。人力車の車夫さんによると、シダレザクラは約400本ありますが、約350年前に京都から嫁いできた公家の娘に持たされた3本のシダレザクラから始まったそうです。武士にとっては「上がる」ものは縁起がよく、「下がる」ものは縁起が悪いとのことですが、藩主が3本ではさみしいだろうと増やすことを許されたので、広がったとか（ごめんなさい。うろ覚えです）。
I took a rickshaw ride and toured the samurai residence street in Kakunodate.
The weeping cherry trees (shidare-zakura) were in full bloom, beautifully contrasting against the black wooden fences.
According to the rickshaw puller, there are about 400 weeping cherry trees today, but it all started with just three trees that were brought by a noblewoman who came from Kyoto about 350 years ago as part of her dowry.
For samurai, things that “rise” were considered lucky, while things that “fall” were seen as unlucky.
Normally, weeping trees would be a bad omen, but the domain lord felt that just three trees would be too lonely, so he allowed more to be planted — and that’s how they spread.

車夫さんにもらったポストカードを見せると割引になる武家屋敷「青柳家」と「石黒家」などを見学しました。
無料の武家屋敷もいくつかあります。
桧木内川（ひのきないかわ）の桜並木
武家屋敷通りから徒歩数分の桧木内川堤には、約2kmのソメイヨシノの桜のトンネルがあります。桜の名所にしては混雑もなくゆったりと見ることができたので、お勧めです！
Just a few minutes’ walk from Bukeyashiki Street, the Hinokinai Riverbank features a roughly 2-kilometer-long stretch of blooming Somei Yoshino cherry trees.
地元グルメとお土産 Local Cuisine and Souvenirs
ランチには、きりたんぽ鍋を楽しみました。観光地の飲食店にはあまり期待しないのですが、きりたんぽ鍋には、せりやごぼうなど具材がたっぷり入っていておいしかった！
For lunch, I enjoyed a kiritanpo hot pot.
I usually don’t expect too much from restaurants in tourist areas, but this kiritanpo nabe was filled with plenty of ingredients like seri (Japanese parsley) and burdock root, and it was really delicious!
地元グルメには稲庭うどんや比内地鶏の親子丼などもあります。
For lunch, I enjoyed “Kiritanpo Nabe”.
There are regional specialties such as “oyakodon” made with Hinai chicken (local chiken) and eggs, and Inaniwa udon (local noodle).
お土産では、角館の特産品である「もろこし」（試食できました）や、安藤醸造の味噌・醤油などがあります。お味噌を買いたかったのですが、その後の旅行を考えると、リュックサック一つで移動している私には重いかも？と思って買わなかったことが悔やまれる……。
As souvenirs, there are Kakunodate’s traditional sweets called “morokoshi” (made from colded azuki (bean) flour and sugar) of Morokoshi-An, and miso and soy sauce from the long-established Ando Brewing Company.
